Nasce nel I secolo d.C. in seguito al perfezionamento dell’armatura del myrmillo A (gallus) nel difficile combattimento contro i retiarii. La peculiarità della rete e del tridente, trasformano anzitutto l’elmo: da globulare semplice, viene irrobustito e arricchito di una sottile cresta a forma di mezzaluna, destinata a far scivolare meglio la rete sull’elmo. Lo scudo viene acquisito dal myrmillo tipo B, rettangolare e convesso, per aumentare la copertura del corpo. Il parastinco metallico viene addizionato da un massiccio tibiale in materiale organico, per resistere ai potenti colpi di tridente verso la tibia. Il myrmillo C, detto myrmillo contrarete, possiede un’armatura identica al secutor. Tuttavia i due nomi rimarranno distinti poiché, a dispetto dello stesso armamento e dello stesso avversario, secutores e myrmillones erano due corporazioni distinte, due Albi che non potevano mischiarsi.
It is born in the I century AD following the improvement of the armor of the myrmillo A (gallus) in the difficult fight against the retiarii. The peculiarity of the net and the trident, transforms indeed the helmet: from globular simple, it is strengthened and enriched of a thin crest to form of half-moon, destined to make to slip better the net on the helmet. The shield is acquired by the myrmillo B type, rectangular and convex, to increase the coverage of the body. The metallic greave is added by a thick tibial in organic material, to withstand the powerful hits of trident toward the tibia. The myrmillo C, said myrmillo contrarete, possesses an identical armor to the secutor. Nevertheless the two names will be separate since, in spite of the same armament and the same adversary, secutores and myrmillones were two separate guilds that could not mix.
